It’s been three months since we partnered with a local charity, FearLess, for a Make-along and the project is now complete!
The idea for the Make-along came from Libby at FearLess, who wanted to raise awareness of their charity and also to celebrate International Women’s Day together. We decided to start a project that would be as inclusive as possible and that would also result in a meaningful and useful finished item.
We welcomed anyone who would like to join in and invited them to knit or crochet a 20cm square using any yarn. The finished squares would then be joined together to make beautiful blankets to be donated to FearLess.
Thanks to the generosity of everyone who participated we now have 11 finished blankets, each made up from 35 squares, a total of 385 squares!
That's a lot of knitting, crocheting, and of course joining! At the shop we hosted a joining day in April, which got us off to a great start with sewing and crocheting the squares together into blankets. It was lovely day led by our outreach co-ordinater, Trudi and we were joined by Libby from FearLess.
We have a thank you message from FearLess to share with you all:
"FearLess is a charity that supports those affected by domestic abuse in the South West. These brilliant blankets made by the community in Exeter will be donated to FearLess clients who have moved into new accommodation, providing them with something made with love. The response from the knitting and crocheting community in Exeter has been overwhelming and we are extremely grateful for your support for FearLess."
And thank you from us at Wool on the Exe too – it’s an honour to be a part of such a strong and kind community.

This looks amazing 👏 let me know if you ever want any support for the projects
Does it matter if I am left handed, and attend a course for right handed people learning to crochet?
